Every festival lineup announcement sparks debate about who deserves the headline slots. This year, however, we are judging the bill by a very different standard. Forget record sales and critic reviews… who would actually smash it in a karaoke room?

Great headliners have huge choruses, know how to get a crowd singing, and deliver unforgettable moments. Coincidentally, that’s exactly what makes a killer karaoke song. We put every headliner through the ultimate test: can a room full of mates with microphones actually pull this off?

The Tricky Ones: Indie and Hip Hop Heavyweights

At the lower end of our ranking are artists whose music is brilliant but difficult for the average singer to master.

Taking the sixth spot is Fontaines D.C. The band's distinctive sound has earned widespread acclaim, but their spoken word influenced delivery creates a unique challenge in a karaoke setting. Grian Chatten's style works perfectly on stage, yet it can be difficult for casual singers to replicate. The right performer can create a memorable moment, but many groups may struggle to maintain the same atmosphere.

Fontaines D.C. Recommended Track: Starburster

Just above them at number five is Dave. Dave’s songs are not easy. Every karaoke group has someone who confidently picks a Dave track, convinced they’re about to deliver a flawless performance. Thirty seconds later, they’re staring at the screen wondering where all those words came from.

If you’re brave enough to give it a go, your mates will definitely respect the effort even if you end up laughing your way through half the verses. Thankfully, Location has a catchy chorus, so everyone else can jump in and save the day.

Rising Stars and High Octane Electronic Anthems

The middle of the rankings introduces artists who strike a balance between challenge and crowd appeal.

At number four is Chase & Status. A Chase & Status song is basically controlled chaos once the chorus kicks in. You don’t really sing these songs. You shout them with your mates while pretending you can keep up with the drum and bass. After a couple of drinks, that’s more than enough.

No one’s expecting perfection here. The goal is maximum energy, questionable dance moves, and at least one person treating the room like they’re headlining a festival.

Chase & Status Recommended Track: Disconnect

Claiming the number three position is RAYE. Among the standout Reading &bLeeds Festival artists, few possess her combination of vocal talent and stage presence. Her music blends pop, jazz, and R&B influences into songs that are packed with emotion and technical complexity.

RAYE's catalogue offers huge rewards for confident singers. Her dramatic choruses and powerful vocal moments create unforgettable performances. However, they also demand considerable skill, which keeps her just outside the top two.

Top Two Reading & Leeds Festival Artists: Built for Karaoke Pod Takeovers

The final two positions belong to Reading &  Leeds Festival artists whose songs seem perfectly designed for group participation.

In second place is Florence and The Machine. Florence Welch has built a career around songs that feel larger than life. Massive percussion, soaring melodies, and emotional choruses combine to create tracks that bring people together instantly.

Her music encourages complete commitment. Whether guests are singing every word or simply shouting along to the chorus, the result is usually one of the most memorable moments of the session.

Florence and The Machine Recommended Track: Dog Days Are Over

Taking the number one position is Charli XCX. Her catalogue contains everything a successful karaoke performance needs. Infectious hooks, memorable lyrics, energetic production, and an unapologetic sense of fun make her songs ideal for group singing.

What makes Charli particularly effective is her accessibility. Guests do not need exceptional vocal ability to perform her music successfully. Energy, enthusiasm, and confidence are far more important. Her songs encourage participation from everyone in the room, turning a simple karaoke session into a full-scale Brat party.
